Conference Summary: ย Under-staffed, combination, and volunteer departments expect their members to do multiple functions on the fire ground. This program combines "The Big Four": The first 5 minutes, stretching, searching, and ground ladders. These are the most critical tasks the 1st arriving companies need to perform flawlessly. This course will help the attendees develop the skills required to accomplish these tasks. We utilize a reality-based training style that will instill confidence in the attendee when operating as the 1st or 2nd due company on an under-staffed department. The instructors will manipulate the environment with emotional components to challenge the firefighter's tempo. High-level scenarios combine all the functions practiced in a fast-paced, realistic storyline.ย
Lecture: October 13, 18:00-21:00
Performance Psychology for the Fire Service
Firefighters are tactical athletes who need tools/skills to solve high-speed pressure problems. Enhancing human performance is used in professional sports and the United States Olympic teams to get an edge on the competition. This open and honest lecture provides the attendees with information on how their bodies and minds react when the fear response is activated and how to react to it and reach optimal human performance mindfully. Dr. Jandro, a licensed psychologist specializing in counseling and performance psychology, will provide insight into Mindfulness and "Psychological Flexibility" to guide us in becoming higher performers on the fire ground. Rob Blasetti will outline these mental skills coaching techniques and how to apply them to our Reality Based Training model.
