About the event
Course Description:
Elevator emergencies present complex rescue challenges involving mechanical systems, electrical hazards, confined spaces, and significant life-safety risk. The Fundamentals of Elevator Emergencies program provides responders with an operations-focused foundation for managing elevator incidents safely and systematically within awareness- and operations-level responsibilities.
This program develops a technical understanding of elevator system design, common failure modes, and incident dynamics that lead to occupant entrapment. Emphasis is placed on incident size-up, hazard identification, control of elevator movement, occupant management, and coordination with elevator technicians and building representatives. Through integrated classroom instruction and hands-on skill development, participants apply non-invasive rescue techniques while recognizing operational limitations and escalation thresholds.
This program aligns with NFPA 1006 (Elevator Rescue Awareness and Operations Level JPRs) and NFPA 1670 (Operations Level), with supporting alignment to NFPA 1500 and NFPA 1561.
Lecture Objectives:
o Understand elevator system types, major components, and basic operating principles relevant to emergency response
