About the event
Thermal Imaging Cameras (TICs) have come long since the early ’90s. Technology in imaging, shutter speed, and battery life has increased the reliability of these tools. Do we understand how they work? This 10-hour program is designed for firefighters, company officers, and chief officers to learn about the theory, technology, and limitations of TICs and apply this acquired knowledge to practical fire ground skills, culminating in a live-fire foreground scenario, which will incorporate multiple tactical applications of the TIC. Facilitated discussion and demonstrations will include applicable NFPA standards, basic infrared (IR) theory, TIC technology and limitations, and tactical application of TIC at the emergency scene to develop, refine, and deliver thermal imaging training. Hands-on training (HOT) will include practical evolutions to apply TIC theory and cultivate TIC skills and abilities. This program will be conducted under live-fire lab conditions so attendees can understand how the TIC works and build proficiency with TIC operations, image interpretation, and integration of TICs into fire ground operations.
