Matt Burns has been a Battalion Chief with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue since 1998 and has been in the fire service since 1991. As the Program Manager for the department's Technical Rescue Operations Team, he oversees all technical rescue training, incident mitigation, and rescue company operations. Matt is a member of VA-TF1 / USA-01, the department-sponsored Urban Search and Rescue Team, serving as a Task Force Leader and Operations Chief and has deployed numerous times domestically and internationally. Matt is an Adjunct Instructor for the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, teaching Heavy & Tactical Rescue and Firefighter 1 & 2, and a FEMA Structural Collapse Specialist Lead Instructor. Matt has a passion for teaching all things to rescue with an emphasis on rescue company operations.
